History
On January 9, 1922 the monks of St. Procopius Abbey voted to send  monks to St. Andrew Parish in Cleveland to establish a Benedictine priory. 
 On February 5, 1922 Fr. Stanislaus Gmuca arrived at St Andrew Parish, five other monks soon followed.
On September 12, 1927 Benedictine High School, established by Fr. George Luba inaugurated the first day of class with 35 students.
In 1928 Fr. Gregory Vaniscak was appointed superior of the dependent priory of St. Andrew. Fr. Stanislaus was appointed pastor of the newly established St. Benedict parish on East Boulevard (Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.).
In 1929 the priory and school moved to its present location in the Buckeye Road neighborhood.
On August 12, 1929 the monastery was declared a conventual priory with Fr. Gregory elected as the Conventual prior.
On July 13, 1934 with 35 monks, St. Andrew Priory became an Abbey. Fr. Stanislaus was elected the first Abbot on August 8, 1934.
In 1940 to accommodate the growing enrollment a new school building was formally opened, with new buildings added in 1952 and 1962.
On June 20, 1946 Abbot Theodore Kojis was elected second Abbot.
On August 6, 1952 a new monastery with two wings was dedicated  by Archbishop Edward Hoban.
On April 26, 1966 Abbot Jerome Koval was elected third Abbot .
On June 9, 1981 Abbot Roger Gries was elected fourth Abbot. .
On August 19, 1985 the new abbey church was solemnly dedicated by Bishop James Hickey and a new abbey building wing had been completed. These projects received significant donations from the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association and the First Catholic Slovak Union.
On April 3, 2001, Abbot Roger was named Bishop and Auxiliary to Cleveland’s Bishop. 
On June 8, 2001, Abbot Clement Zeleznik was elected fifth Abbot.
On June 10, 2008, Abbot Christopher was elected sixth Abbot.
Currently, thirty-two monks live, pray, and work at the Abbey.
