Our Community

Ranging from the ages of 23 to 92, thirty Benedictine monks of St. Andrew Abbey composed of priests and brothers seek the mercy of God and fellowship of community.  We are committed to a life of prayer and work, "Ora et Labora," following the 1,500 year tradition of our holy father St. Benedict.

Our Hallmarks:

1: Prayer: Our monks pray the Liturgy of Hours four times in common with a weekly Thursday Eucharist holy hour and Sunday Benediction. We also seek God through daily private meditation "lectio divinia," spiritual reading, and  devotion to our Blessed Mother.

2. Work: Our monks serve as an auxiliary bishop, school teachers, parish priests, retreat masters, hospital chaplains, artisans, cooks, nurses, librarians, groundskeepers, etc.

3.Obedience: Our monks are faithful to Pope Benedict XVI and our Abbot Christopher Schwartz O.S.B

Pope Benedict XVI at Monte Cassino

Abbot Christopher Schwartz O.S.B.

4. Sanctity of Life: Our monks defend and promote the sanctity of all human life. We host the Rosary for Life every first Saturday of the month, whereby the laity attend Holy Mass and then pray at two local abortion clinics accompanied by monks.

5. Community Life: Our monks strive daily to grow in charity and fellowship through prayer, work, and fellowship.   Reverencing Christ in one another, we help bear each other's crosses with love and joy so that we might share in Eternal Life.
