CERTIFICATES THEY’RE NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS

Many people used our certificate program to buy gifts for Christmas. We thank all of you for your support. Don’t forget, certificates are good all year round–for any gift-giving occasion–or to use for yourself. A restaurant certificate makes a great anniversary gift. Don’t know what kind of food someone would like–no problem. We now have a single gift certificate that works at many restaurants or other entertainment facilites. The same certificate works at the Winking Lizard or Swingo’s; Cooper’s Town or The Watermark; Blazin Bills or Lion & Lamb. Ask our certificate sellers to show you the list of restaurants, or go on line at www.simplycertificates.com. We also now have Cracker Barrel.

ALTAR MINISTERS

We are still in need of Altar Ministers for Holy Week and Easter. Sign-up sheets are on the door of the Usher’s Room. If you are available to minister for Holy Week or Easter, please sign-up. "Thank You" to all who have already volunteered. Your ministry is a gift to our parish.

SCHEDULING NOTE–EASTER WEEK

There will be no daily masses during Easter week., Monday-Friday, April 21-25. We will, however, have a communion service each morning at 7:30. The mass intentions will be rescheduled.

FROM THE PASTOR

Dear brothers and sisters in the Lord,

We begin Holy Week by recalling the Passion of the Lord. His passion for us and for our souls led him through the sufferings he endured on the way of the cross. Why would He do this for us, unless He is passionately in love with us? How easy it is to be distracted by all the other things going on in our lives and to lose our focus on the most important.

We make time for work, for school, for cleaning house and shopping, for coloring eggs and filling Easter baskets, for preparing for Easter feasting, and, oh, for so many other things great and small. Have we made time to prepare ourselves for the event that rocked the world–the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead? These events–the Passion, the Death, the Resurrection of the Lord–are called the Paschal Mystery. These events transform the world, because they transform us. We are no longer condemned to a hellish eternity. We have hope for a life of joy that will last forever.

Because of the Resurrection, we believe that life, our human existence, has meaning and a divine purpose. We believe, as well, that all things, beneficial–love, peace, joy–and bad–war, hatred, poverty–work together for good in the mystery of God’s plan of salvation.

Make the time this week to experience the memory of Jesus’ last days before his dying and rising. Participate in the sacred events that are offered. The holiest week of the year begins today. But, the world doesn’t stop. Everything goes on–the regular TV programs, the regular work schedule, income tax… So, if we want this to be a "holy week," each one of us has to decide what to do to make it holy.

Passionately yours,

Fr. Jamie

THE SEARCH FOR A NEW PRINCIPAL

The Search Committee met last Monday under the direction of St. Patricia Ann Kidder, IHM, from the Office of Elementary Education for the Diocese of Cleveland. According to diocesan guidelines, the committee is to have two parishioners who are school parents and two who have no children in the school. The four are John Kall (parent), Carol Tapocsi (parent), Marilyn Spiewak and Fred Lisy. In addition, Sr. Patricia Ann, Sr. Carol Marek, SND, principal of St. Michael Elementary School, Independence, and Fr. Jamie, complete the seven-person search committee. THE SEVEN LAST WORDS OF CHRIST

Sponsored by the Southeast Clergy Council, St. Wenceslas Church will host an ecumenical prayerservice on Good Friday, April 11, from 12 Noon until 3:00 pm. The focus is on the seven last words of Christ. Each word will have a different minister preaching on it. All are welcome.

BLESSING OF FOOD

Bring your homemade or specialty breads, meats, eggs, wine, chocolates, etc. for a special Easter food blessing to take place in the Church on Holy Saturday morning at 11:00 am.

PRIVACY ACT BEGINS APRIL 11

Fr. Frank Godic, Diocesan Director of Pastoral Care Services & Health Affairs, tells us that each hospital, nursing home, or other facility that houses the sick, may come up with its own interpretation of the Privacy Act. He encourages patients or family members, during the admitting process, to identify oneself as Catholic and to inform the institution that a pastoral visit from the parish would be welcome.

In addition, it would be great if the parish was informed about parishioners going to hospital or nursing homes.

BULLETIN INSERTS BY BISHOP ANTHONY PILLA

ON VIBRANT PARISH LIFE

"If all Catholics are to experience parish life, we will need to sustain and expand the vital ministries we now have, while discerning new and creative means of providing ministry in the future.

"Engaging in a process of renewal can lead to a fuller, vibrant parish life for those who participate. Failing to act will lead inevitably to diminished parish life." We must never abandon hope in the working of the Holy Spirit among us, nor of God’s love and providence in our lives."
