FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Parishioners,

I hope that the meeting with Fr. Larry Jurcak, Director of Clergy Personnel for the Diocese of Cleveland, went well here this past Tuesday. The next pastor will inherit a good parish with many fine people who love the Church and who love St. Martin of Tours. The results of the Vibrant Parish Life Town Hall meeting illustrated just have grateful a number of people are for this parish and how much God has been present among us throughout our parish history. Several of those present at that meeting considered our Adoration Chapel to be our greatest blessing. After the celebration of the Eucharist at Mass, I would agree with that evaluation.

It is through the power of the Eucharist that we receive insight and power to act in the name of the Lord. There is much work that needs to be done here and in our world. We are to teach and preach, heal and forgive, live out the beatitudes and commandments—guided by the Holy Spirit to the Father through Jesus and guided by that same Spirit to love others the way Jesus loves us. This is a tall order. Centered in the Eucharist, both in receiving our Lord frequently and in worshipping before him in the Blessed Sacrament, we will know a greater degree of confidence, power and peace in our lives.

Despite the transition in the position of pastor, there will be quite a bit of work taking place on our parish property this summer. The concrete repair work outside the entrance of the school is nearing completion. Other repair work scheduled for this summer: fix and repair the leak in the school roof, especially over the library; repair of the roof over the vestibule of the church; repair and replace crumbled, broken, and uneven sidewalks; fill chuckholes, dress and line the parking lot. The Parish Finance Council gave its recommendation to work on all these projects.

Otherwise, as the school year comes to an end, enjoy the summer. Let us pray for one another and for our parish.

Your brother in Christ,

Fr. Jamie

THE PARISH PICNIC

Valley View Woods has been reserved on Sunday, August 17, for our annual parish picnic. Anyone interested in helping to plan the picnic is welcome to attend a meeting in the school on Monday, June 23, at 7 pm in the school. BEDFORD HUNGER CENTER

If you can give a helping hand, please contact Bill Scott at (216) 518-1850. He is manager of the Hunger Center, which is sponsored by the Southeast Clergy Council, of which St. Martin is a member.

BULLETIN INSERTS BY BISHOP ANTHONY PILLA

ON VIBRANT PARISH LIFE

"Second, when the self study and catechetical steps are complete, I ask you to turn to at least one parish, ideally one that touches your parish boundaries.

"If the future of ministry is to be vibrant and viable into the next Millennium, it will take a stated vision, a thoughtful and prayerful discernment, a conversion of hearts and minds, and most especially courageous and cooperative parish leaders. I am confident that the Spirit is moving among us and will renew our local Church."

WORSHIP COMMISSION

Are you interested in the rites and rituals we celebrate as church? Have you ever wondered how the liturgy has developed through scripture and tradition? Are you interested in more vibrant liturgical celebrations? Could you help decorate the worship space? If you answered yes, or even maybe to any of these questions consider joining the parish Worship Commission. Anyone interested should contact Deacon Ted at 663-1262 to talk about your interest. A Worship Commission will be forming in June.

ADORATION CHAPEL ANNIVERSARY

Thirteen years ago next weekend the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ we began our perpetual prayer before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. We thank Our Lord for His many graces and petitions answered.

If you would like to contribute to this powerhouse of prayers, stop in to visit during daylight hours, become a regular volunteer, or substitute once a month.

We also need more substitutes during the summer. If you can help in any way please call Virginia at 216-663-2267.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE

On this Trinity Sunday we are reminded that the Church has chosen the language of "family" to name our human experience of God. We refer to God as Father, Jesus as Son and Brother, the Church as Mother, and other Christians as our brothers and sisters. The way we act in our family relationships tells others a lot about the God we worship.

THE HARVEST IS GREAT,

BUT THE LABORERS FEW…"

"When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."

Our parish needs laborers to cultivate and nurture the young children in our Parish School of Religion. The need for teachers, aides, and other volunteers is great. If you are a person of faith, a person willing to share your faith and help pass on its rich traditions to the youngest of our community, please call Diana McCormick at 216-475-3455.

HEALING HUMOR

Meeting at lunch, two businessmen began to talk about world problems, high taxes, the cost of living, and finally their families. "I have four children," mentioned the one man proudly.

"That’s a nice family," sighed the other man. "I wish to heaven I had four children."
"Don’t you have any children?" the proud father asked with a touch of sympathy in his voice.

"Oh, yes," sighed the second man again. "Eight."

(from KEEP ‘EM LAUGHIN’, 1987)

God is a family of persons. We cannot reason out this truth. Instead, God has revealed this mysterious truth to us through the Son, Jesus Christ. One God/Three Persons—a Most Holy Trinity. The Trinitarian God created humanity in the divine image. As we honor and praise God—One in Three and Three in One—we honor and bless our human families as well.
