WHITE TAILED DEER

  The White Tailed Deer scientific name is Odocoileus virgianisanus

    White tail deer is a long legged, fast moving mammal. Most are brown with white markings. They have large dark eyes and a sweet looking face. They are about three to three and a half feet tall at their shoulder.The males, called bucks, weigh up to 400 pounds.The females,called does weighup to 200 pounds.They are warm blooded animls

The deer live in north and central America.They live in forest,marshes,grass lands,fram land and desert.

They are plant eaters.They eat leaves,grass,bark,corn,and other plant live.

Deer are very alert and have a great sense of smell.  The male deer grow antlers and use them to fight for mates and to protect thier trritory.

Females deer have one or to babies at a time.

The deer are not endangered.The deer have many enemies.They are wolfs,cougars,and the main one is dogs.Deer are also very popular with human hunters.There main defense is their speed.

When a deer is startled it bolw its nose making a snor sound that clears the nose so it can smell the air better.It will also thump the ground with its front feet to warn of danger.It will lift its white tailed up as a warning.
