SMM-SJM Music 2010-2011
Music at SMM-SJM School is fun and exciting! We all learn to play percussion instruments, sing many fun songs, learn dances to fun music, and most importantly we learn hymns for Liturgy that helps us to praise God. During lunch recess interested students in Grades 5-8 learn the basic notes and rhythms to be a part of Bell Choir. Bell Choir enhances our liturgical music during the year at special liturgies such as Christmas Eve etc.
Grades 6-8
We learn many new things and explore many genres of music.We study composers and styles of music. We enjoy listening activities, singing activities and composing activities. Grades 6-8 learn to play the xylophone to accompany various songs for liturgy. We also compose raps.
Grades 3-5
We sing and dance to many fun songs as we learn about form and rhythm. We also learn to play the recorder by reading musical notation.
Grades K-2
We sing many songs and learn a variety of dances. We explore tone color by playing various percussion instruments and use body percussion to create rhythms.
Grades 3-8:
Our SMM-SJM school choir sings at Friday school liturgies as well as at occasional weekend liturgies.
