Keyboarding

keyboard

Knowing how to use computers has become an important and essential skill in our society today. Computer keyboarding is a valued skill for students to learn in order to know how to efficiently use the computer. Keyboarding is the process of using the various keys on the keyboard to input information into the computer. The particular method of keyboarding that is being taught is called "touch typing."  This method teaches keyboarding by learning the placement of the keys by touch, or feel. The objective of developing correct keyboarding skills and techniques is to help make computer usage more efficient, accurate and faster.

Students begin learning to keyboard starting in Grade K and continue to develop and master this skill through
Grade 8. Students should work towards learning to touch-type at a rate equal to, or better than, their handwriting speeds.

Grade Level Keyboarding Goals

Grade 4-   20 WPM
Grade 5-   25 WPM
Grade 6-   30 WPM
