What kind of software do the students use in the computer lab?
Software will vary depending on grade level. St. Raphael School computer lab uses several different word processing programs. For Primary usage the programs are Print Shop 2 and MS Word . Intermediate and Junior High students learn the Microsoft Office Suite (includes Word Processing, Excel, Power Point Presentation), iMovie multimedia, and other programs. In addition, many computer activities use various educational internet sites pertaining to their lessons.
What kind of computers do we have in the lab?
We have a STATE OF THE ART Computer Lab! There are 30 iMac computers in the lab! Each student has his/her own computer. In addition, the computer lab is equipped with an interactive Smartboard, a scanner, a Phaser and a laser printer, and a digital camera.
Knowing how to use computers has become an important and essential skill in our society today. Computer keyboarding is a valued skill for students to learn in order to know how to efficiently use the computer. Keyboarding is the process of using the various keys on the keyboard to input information into the computer. The particular method of keyboarding that is being taught is called "touch typing." This method teaches keyboarding by learning the placement of the keys by touch, or feel. The objective of developing correct keyboarding skills and techniques is to help make computer usage more efficient, accurate and faster.
Students
begin learning to keyboard
starting in Grade K and continue to develop and master this skill
through
Grade 8. Students should work towards learning to touch-type at a rate
equal to, or better than, their handwriting speeds.
